My ideas on copyright infringement have definitely changed. I used to think that it wasn't a big deal and that it shouldn't be punished, but now I think different. Now I think it is stealing and I think that people the do it all the time and make a living out of it should be penalized. They should have to either spend three to five years in jail or pay a 250,000 dollar fine. It is wrong for someone to steal someones work without paying for it, even though the writers and singers of the songs are paid pretty well you have to think about all of the other people like the CD makers and editors. If you don't buy the song they don't get paid which is taking money away from their family.
A copyright infringement example would be the lawsuit between A&M Record and Napster. A&M Records were suing Napster for copyright infringement. A&M Records said that Napster was stealing there songs and selling them to the world. Napster had to pay 26 million dollars to the music industry in 2002. Napster also apologized. I feel that the punishment should have been way more than just apologizing and taking the website down. I feel that they should have taken the money and given it to an organization or given it to their employees.
